Dir. James Quedado, San Francisco, CA, United States
Language: English
*Nominated For Best LGBTQ Film

Synopsis: Chinx is a journey into the strange, challenging, and often discriminatory world of online hookup culture. Our guide is Del, a 40-something Filipino, stepping out into an unfamiliar dating landscape after years of singlehood and “self-discovery” to find gay hookup apps a place readily designed to exclude people like himself. Largely silent throughout the film, Del’s experience will make manifest the ways in which modern app culture repudiates those who do not conform to the narrow biases the dating world upholds. Facing racially-charged messaging from a variety of men, and seeking solace and encouragement from a friend, Del is faced with an urgent question: Is there a place for me here, or will I always be seen as the other?

‘Berta Boys
Short Film | Duration: 00:20:00 |
Dir. Kyle Terrence, Canada
Language: English
*Nominated For Best LGBTQ Film, Best Short Film, Best Experimental Film

Synopsis: ‘Berta Boys is a short film that contemplates the instability of Alberta’s (Canada) hyper masculine identity. In a region whose history and economy is rooted in colonialism, the cowboy mythos, and resource extraction, the landscape itself is not simply a background for events to unfurl. It is instead a primary character in the narrative of identity, an entity cyclically exploited by the desires of men. The landscape has been personified in the film as a sentient truck: a powerful organism fleeing from constant pursuit within the invisible borders of the hunting grounds.
