>Screenwriter Q&A Follows The Live Script Read

Life, Love And Dying In The Alps

by Karin delaPeña Collison

Bio: Karin is bi-coastal with residences in  New York and California.

As an Actress, Singer, and Dancer, she worked and won awards in the US, UK, Europe, and Malaysia. She then left showbiz and explored other careers.

In 2019 she jumped into Screenwriting. In 2021 won a Fellowship for her drama feature, ‘Coming of Age,’ inspired by her childhood in the English theater world.

Her second feature ‘Life, Love, and Dying in the Alps,’ also inspired by true family events, has reached top 5 Finalist at other festivals and is now in the Top 2 of All Scripts at the 19th Annual ReelHeART International Film And Screenplay Festival.

Karin enjoys writing light-hearted, realistic dramas with strong, sexy, big-hearted, fallible, non-conformist female leads, and doesn’t hesitate to dive deep into her characters and their circumstances, no matter how dark.

Raised among people who take risks and don’t hesitate to roll and laugh with life’s punches, she lives and writes by the creed that humor, while often black and/or naughty, always lies just around the corner, and that there’s always room for hope.

Inspiration: My mother weaned me on her time in the French Resistance during WWII; her post-war battle with TB; and her doomed love affair with an English aristocrat who was also combating TB in an enchanted, mountainous snow-scape.

Their affair was doomed because my mother, a commoner and an artist; would never have conformed to the religious and societal demands placed on an aristocrat’s wife.

When I was fresh out of school I shared a flat in London’s Chelsea, just off the King’s Road. One of my flat mates was called Corinna (note the similarity of that name to mine).

One day, my mother was bursting to tell me about something that had just happened to her. An old friend – with whom she’d maintained Christmas card contact over the years, came through London from his home in the far North of England.

They met for a drink and inevitably chatted about their children. They discovered that both their daughters lived in Chelsea they took out their address books and were rendered speechless when they realized that their girls were living in the same flat.

This peculiar coincidence was even more potent given that it was they who had been each other’s great loves from their time in the Swiss TB Sanatorium.

The vast majority, all the details of this screenplay come out of my imagination, very much inspired by the bare bones of their story. My final Inspiration for writing it though, is that Corinna received a terminal diagnosis at the end of 2021…
