Rollaway

Bio: Tom McIntire is an artist, writer, actor and filmmaker based in Seattle. Born on Long Island, New York, Tom has lived most of his life in the Western United States. He shares a house and garden with his husband Kurt and his Chihuahuas Crouton and Macaron.

Inspiration for Your Screenplay: I was recovering from a serious head and neck injury in 2016 and 2017 that made it difficult for me to write or make art. While entirely fiction, Russell’s determination and wily tricks to make his art dreams come true amidst the trauma around him resonated deeply with me as I stumbled through how to tell this coming-of-age story as I went through my own sort of second coming of age. Rollaway inspired me both in writing and in a series of paintings that imagined Russell’s sketchbook and scenes from the screenplay itself.
