Screenwriter Q&A Follows The Live Script Read

Saturn’s Return
TV Pilot | 46 pages
Screenwriter, Sam Callahan
New York City, New York – United States

Synopsis Georgie’s content to live her life detached from her true self until her friends and family move back to Brooklyn and force her to face the wretch she’s become

Inspiration When I first moved to New York, I was at my own rock bottom. I was in such a bad way, my bodega guy finally refused to sell me any more NyQuil — I was with very poor judgment using it to keep myself asleep to avoid life. I then found a writing studio in the city that didn’t require me to show up in person, so I thought— what the hell? In saying what the hell and starting up a class again, I awakened a long-dormant part of myself: the part who schedules things, keeps calendars, notes, track of life… I call her Emily. Emily is one of my Players from my Mindscape in charge of admin. Her awakening started a four year-long mental health recovery where I got to really learn myself and was able to express and process my own traumas through writing. As any healthy writer would do, I sublimated all my work into this story – I even gave our main character Emily, my Player, as her own.

Bio   “I like the moment after I wake up before everyone tells me who to be” ~Unknown.

Sam Callahan is a queer trans non-binary TV writer and author based in Brooklyn, best known for their quirky character-driven intricate plots, emotional comedy, and magic. Sam Callahan is a fierce social justice warrior and advocate for the underrepresented, marginalized, and oppressed. Their work leans strongly on identity and thorough understanding of self.

Stories are how they relate to their self, their family, and their environment. Sam experiences the world through the lens of story. It’s their most comfortable and most challenging place to occupy: a duality they find fitting for both the craft of storytelling and for life. For in storytelling, like life, we must exist in a space where two things are true at once: we are in complete control, and we know absolutely nothing.
