The Vicar’s Daughter
Feature Screenplay | 111 pages
Screenwriter: Robert Thompsett, Hull, Gatineau, Canada

Synopsis: After being rescued in Iraq as a 6 year old, Mirriam, an Arab girl, is raised by a retired SAS Chaplain and his wife in the idyllic farmlands of England’s Devon.  At 18, however, the fatwa on her head for converting to Christianity returns to haunt her with her adopted parents are slaughtered by terrorists linked to the husband that she was forced to marry at the age of 6.  Instead of living a life on the lam, however, she takes the battle to them, ruthlessly hunting them down whilst the authorities remain powerless to act, crippled by “political correctness”.  At root, “The Vicar’s Daughter” is a thriller and social satire with an intriguing and morally complex female protagonist.  It explores the British political divide within mainstream commercial genre and political life of the nation.

Inspiration: A passionate believer in freedom of speech, I have always been fascinated in the powerful way that satire can convey an important point of view – and, at no time in past, have our liberties and freedom, so hard won on the beaches of Normandy, been under such attack and been in such retreat.
