In the 1980s, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder famously pointed out that Ebony and Ivory can work together and be productive. The director continues this useful trick of metaphors to explain our culture’s glorification of phoniness.

The Beverly Hillbillies meet The X-Files in this 2nd installment of John Putch’s Route 30 Trilogy. Actor (One Day At A Time), director (Cougar Town) John Putch, the son of Jean Stapleton ( All In The Family) has created a stand alone backwoods comedy with a zany twist on a conspiracy laden world. Two members of New York State’s Unusual Occurrence and Paranormal Society played by Jamie Rose ( Falcon Crest, In2ition) and Robert Romanus (Fast Times At Ridgemont High), who arrive to investigate the mysterious goings on and get involved with the colorful locals characters such as Deer Hunter Bob played by Curtis Armstrong (The Closer, American Dad!, Moonlighting), Rotten Egg played by Lee Wilkof (Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead , Law & Order, Ally McBeal) and a suddenly Spanish convenience store clerk named Chicky played hilariously by Noah Applebaum.

ReelHeART Director Note: On a day when everything was going horribly wrong, this film came across my desk to review. I needed a laugh and John’s film delivered! Loving his direction on Cougar Town, John’s kept this group of oddball friends close together by running them through an exercise in the paranormal and what happens to them as inhabitants of a tiny town. I have to single out Noah Applebaum who was hilarious as “Chicky”. Route 30, Too! left a smile on my face long after viewing. Fun characters. Fun film. “PopToppy!”
